Five franchise city teams to participate in inaugural season

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced that a hockey league will be held in Lahore in November-December. The league will precede this year’s Hockey World Cup in India. World Cup in India.

Addressing a press conference on the occasion of the launch of the league, PHF President Brigadier (retd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar said that this hockey league is to regain the lost glory of our golden days ofhockey and this PHF’s first step is to restore the game. He added that while working with a professional corporate team, he is confident that PHF is now moving in the right direction.

PHF General Secretary Muhammad Asif Bajwa said the league would serve as a platform to make local players the stars of the future. In this league, local players will have the opportunity to play with international players, which will be very beneficial for them.

Senior Advisor, Franchise Hockey League, Salman Sarwar Butt said that the Hockey League would rekindle the identity of Pakistan hockey not only in Pakistan but also in the world. “Our goal is to make Pakistan a ‘hockey destination’ through great branding, innovation in implementation and quality of the game,” he said.

He further said that all these steps are being taken as a result of which this Hockey League has become a commercially and economically viable product for all stakeholders.

Project Director, Franchise Hockey League, Harris Jalil Mir said that this league is no less than a national duty and that is why this project is close to his heart.

Five teams from Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar will take part in the league. The event will span three weeks. The quarterfinals will be held in Lahore.

Hockey powerhouses from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Korea, Japan and Argentina will be part of the roster of foreign players available for the league.
