Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Asadullah Faiz presided over an important meeting with presidents and secretaries of all sports associations of the province at National Hockey Stadium, Lahore the other day.
Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi, Irfanullah Khan (table tennis), Maudood Jafery, Salman Butt (athletics), M Naeem (bodybuilding), Rashid Malik (tennis) and presidents and secretaries of other sports associations of the province also attended the meeting. Presidents and secretaries of all sports associations of the province were also introduced with Asadullah Faiz and Tariq Qureshi on this occasion.
Addressing the meeting, Asadullah Faiz urged the sports associations of the province to groom nursery of Under-13 and Under-10 talented players in all games. “It is the only way to prepare a pool of talented male and female players and earn a respectable place in international sports in future”, he said.
He further said that 15 sports associations should conduct Under-13 and Under-10 training camps in the first phase while the remaining 15 sports associations should hold their camps in the second phase. “Grooming players at a younger age is a routine practice at international level and that is the reason the foreign teams always excelled in international sports events”, Asadullah Faiz concluded.
In his address, DG Sports Punjab Tariq Qureshi said the actual mandate of Sports Board Punjab is to train and nurture male and female players at young age and it is essential for all sports associations and departments as well for the true revival of sports in the country. “Sports Board Punjab will provide every possible assistance for the organization of these training camps”, DG Sports Punjab added.
