Wrestler Ali Asad, who claimed bronze medal for Pakistan in the 57kg category in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 in Birmingham, was stripped of his medal after testing positive for banned performance- enhancing drugs.
The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has also withheld his prize money.“I am surprised at how I have been declared positive,” Ali said.
Ali defeated New Zealand’s Suraj Singh in 55 seconds to win bronze as Pakistan had won five medals — two silvers and three bronze in the category.
According to a report a thorough investigation, however, revealed further details in Ali’s case as it has been learnt that the tests conducted by the PSB and the results of which were revealed just recently also declared him positive. “I have never deliberately used any performance- enhancing drugs. I am surprised at how I have been declared positive,” Ali as saying when asked about his initial test results.
